For those of you who do not know me, and the group, I'll start by telling you a little about me. I spent 17 years in the NFL, 8 as a player, and 9 as an executive. I played for the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, and Denver Broncos. I also played in Super Bowl XXII with the Broncos. After my playing days, I became Vice-President of the Detroit Lions from 1993-2001. All of that was a blessing for me, but now I'm following my childhood passion, music. I have been a professional bass player for more than 25 years and after a long layoff and getting my fingers back into shape I formed a group and named it LARRY LEE AND BACK IN THE DAY. My group is like a gourmet recipe. I put together the finest ingredients in order to create something that would stand the test of time. Members of Back In The Day are former members of groups such as The Temptations, 4 Tops, Spinners, Parliament/Funkadelic, and Gospel Hall of Famers Bill Moss and The Celestials. In our short existence, we have compiled a resume' that is second to none. We have gained an awesome fan base, in our home area, Detroit, and the Detroiter's are spreading the word like wild-fire. I grew up in Dayton, Ohio the same town that produced several national funk groups in the 70's, such as, Lakeside (Fantastic Voyage), Heatwave (Always and Forever), Slave (slide), Roger Troutman (More Bounce to the Ounce), and The Ohio Players, (Fire). and that is where my funk comes from. I have been blessed to have shared time musically with most members from the aforementioned groups and now it is my turn to reincarnate the funk. Please take the time and peruse my website it is very informative and after doing so, I'm sure that you will either come out and see us and/or hire us for your next event. God Bless Larry
I played my first 5 years with the Detroit Lions. I later went on to become Vice-President of the Lions (shirt and tie picture below). I was a 5th round draft choice out of UCLA. After playing with the Lions, I was traded to the Miami Dolphins and spent a couple of years there. Two of my team mates were Hall of Famers Dan Marino and Dwight Stephenson. All of us were coached by the legendary Don Shula.
(Old Bronco uniform) (up)One more trade happened and I ended up in Denver with the Broncos. I became a part of the Bronco nation for the last 3 years of my career where I played with another Hall of Famer John Elway. That team ended up playing in Super Bowl XXII. Sorry Browns fans, that was the year of the Earnest Byner fumble. The quarterback in the photo above is Houston Texans Head Coach Gary Kubiak
After the playing days were over I became Vice President of the Detroit Lions. I handled all of the day to day operations for the Lions, along with negotiating player contracts, and participating in all player transactions such as draft picks, trades, cuts, etc. That lasted for 9 years and then I went back to my childhood passion music. (see below photo) Here I am in a zone playing my HMR built NFL themed bass I call "the beast". In 2006 The Detroit Music Awards voted me "Urban/Funk instrumentalist of the Year" go to our accomplishments page for more info.
At a more classy affair I'm in another zone belting out one of the many tunes we perform. We specialize in getting the crowd on the dance floor AND KEEPING THEM THERE. | |||||
